UMSC Special Needs Program

“We were thrilled to have raised $300 to help support  one of our favourite programs, UMSC High 5 Program that works with special needs kids. My sister and I, along with a number of other Developing Innovation team members are honoured to have been a part of this amazing program for the last couple of years. We are always anxious to see the kids and are very happy we were able to raise funds for this great cause. This would not have been possible without Brian at Comic World. Comic World is a new comic book store in Markham at the corner of McCowan Rd, & Hwy#7, that has a great selection of comics, old and new, and is owned by Brian, an amazing person with a big heart. “

“We are very happy to say that we are starting to get a collection of great toques from the Raising the Roof Program that helps support people that are experiencing homelessness. We bought a number of hats last year and gave them away to people we thought could use a nice warm hat. This year we have been extremely busy with so many events, so we focused what time we had on bring more awareness to the program through the use of social media. Next year we will be back to devoting more effort and time in buying, selling and giving away more of these amazing toques in order to help tackle the complex problem of homelessness.”

“Recently I had the privilege to win the Eduzine Global ACE Young Achiever Award 2015 for my work in inspiring, promoting and celebrating young students in the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The best thing about winning this award was that I got to pick a charity that would receive support and funding from Eduzine Global over the next year. I chose the Learning Disabilities Association of York Region because of all the great things they are doing to help youth in York Region that have learning disabilities.”

Proudly Supporting 360ºkids

360ºkids is an organization that’s vision is to create a community where every kid matters, and feels safe, supported and loved, which is totally in line with Developing Innovations values and beliefs. On March 26th you can sponsor Aidan Aird’s “night of homelessness” to help end youth homelessness in York Region by clicking here: http://360kids.akaraisin.com/pledge/Participant/Home.aspx?seid=10110&mid=9&pid=2079419

Supporting 360 Kids at STEM Outreach at Milliken Mills Community Centre

“I was stunned to learn that there were over 300+ homeless youth living on the streets right in York Region. The biggest shock was that there is a good possibility that one of my classmates or a number of my peers at my school are homeless or are in a 360ºkids program. That is when I realized that it was time to help bring awareness and support to this worthwhile cause. I have managed to bring some awareness to 360ºkids and the wonderful things they are doing, but now its time for me to help them raise some funds that will help support 360ºkids initiative.

On March 26th, 2015; I will be spending the entire night out on the streets as many of these unfortunate homeless youth do, each and every day. I know spending one night sleeping out in the streets will never give me the whole experience these youth go through, but what I hope to accomplish is to bring more awareness and financial support to help solve this problem. I also hope this valuable experience will at least give me a better understanding of the challenges that these homeless youth face and the thought process needed to help solve or improve this terrible situation.”

The Markham Salvation Army

Last year the toys and food that were brought to The Salvation Army assisted over 231 families and over 403 children in the Markham area.  This adds up to approx.  5,000 toys, hats, mitts and stocking stuffers. Developing Innovations has and will be a supporter of The Salvation Army.

The Children’s Centre at Markham Stouffville Hospital

Children arriving at Markham Stouffville Hospital receive the best medical treatment and support. However a child in the hospital can be a very stressful time for the patient and their families. You can help ease their stress with the donation of a toy.  Coming to the hospital can be an extremely stressful and frightening time for children and their families and it makes a huge difference to be able to provide children with toys and activities during their hospital stay. Not only do these items serve as a wonderful distraction to help take children’s minds off being in the hospital, they also help to normalize the hospital environment so they are able to feel more comfortable and relaxed. The hospital environment can be tough on toys as they need to be cleaned after every use, so replacements are constantly needed. Developing Innovations Team of dedicated volunteers are very happy to help buy and collect toys in order to make a child stay at the hospital as stress-free as possible.

CP24 Chum Christmas Wish

The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish program has become one of the largest distributors of toys to children in need in the Greater Toronto Area. The program also provides financial assistance to hundreds of agencies, ensuring that hundreds of thousands of children across the GTA enjoy a holiday experience. In 2013, with the help of The Royal Bank of Canada, as well as the generous donations from our loyal viewers and listeners, the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish in conjunction with Toronto Social Services assisted approximately 300,000 people in need through toy and financial support.

The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish was established in 1966 as CHUM’s Kid’s Crusade Foundation for the purpose of assisting children’s charities and children in need. In 1973, the name was changed to the CHUM Charitable Foundation in order to reflect the expansion of the foundation’s work, which included providing financial assistance to adults in need. In 2008, the program became known as the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish and continues the longstanding tradition of helping to give a kid a Christmas.
